Head Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Serving as the public face of the Centre, taking the lead role representing the school
  • Maintaining high visibility within the Centre and the community by periodically visiting classrooms, attending meetings as appropriate, attending Board meetings and attending Centre-wide functions;
  • Fostering communication between and among all major stakeholders: faculty, administrative staff, parents, children and Directors;
  • Supporting teachers, guides, assistant staff in communicating with parents;
  • Attending information meetings with parents of prospective children;
  • Maintaining responsibility and ultimate authority for personnel decisions (recruitment, hiring, development, and termination) conducted in collaboration with others as appropriate
  • Overseeing and assisting with all aspects of day-to-day, annual and long-range financial operations, including preparation of the budget and tuition recommendations;
  • Overseeing and assisting in developing, implementing, and evaluating all education programs, school policies and procedures
  • Overseeing the disciplinary program of the Centre, including supporting the policies in accordance with the Centre’s employee and parent handbooks for any child or employee;
  • Overseeing all facilities and reviewing maintenance programs for existing facilities.
  • Planning, in conjunction with the Board, for the physical needs of the Centre.
  • Managing the Centre on a day-to-day basis;
  • Managing any special projects as required

Head Teacher Requirements:

  • Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from an accredited institution as approved by the Cayman Islands Ministry of Education
  • Additional courses or training in education would be advantageous.
  • Certified in Second Step’s Child Protection &/or any other Cayman Islands Ministry of Education approved Child protection and safeguarding training
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid
  • 5 years experience in a classroom
  • Previous experience in a similar head teacher position, overseeing staff
  • Has strong leadership skills for a collaborative environment
  • Has strong public speaking and writing skills, and the demonstrated ability to build relationships with children, employees, parents, and the community.
  • Has demonstrated fundraising skills.
  • Has demonstrated experience allocating resourcing within budgetary limitations, making sound financial decisions to optimize resources
