Position Overview: The Underwriting Team Manager will lead a team of underwriters, ensuring the delivery of high-quality underwriting services for our motor insurance clients. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and extensive experience in motor insurance underwriting. The ideal candidate will drive operational efficiency, maintain risk management standards, and contribute to the growth and profitability of the underwriting department.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Team Leadership and Development:

    • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of underwriters to ensure high performance and professional growth.
    • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback.
    • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment.
  2. Underwriting Management:

    • Oversee the underwriting process for motor insurance policies, ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Review and approve high-value and complex underwriting decisions.
    • Ensure accurate and timely processing of applications, renewals, and endorsements.
  3. Risk Assessment and Management:

    • Develop and implement underwriting guidelines and risk assessment procedures.
    • Monitor and evaluate risk exposure and recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
    • Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and market conditions.
  4. Client Relationship Management:

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, brokers, and other stakeholders.
    • Address and resolve client inquiries and issues promptly and professionally.
    • Provide expert advice on motor insurance products and services.
  5. Operational Efficiency:

    • Streamline underwriting processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
    • Utilize data analytics and underwriting software to enhance decision-making.
    • Ensure adherence to best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
  6. Reporting and Analysis:

    • Prepare and present regular reports on underwriting performance, risk exposure, and market trends.
    • Analyze underwriting data to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
    • Collaborate with the finance team to monitor profitability and loss ratios.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CPCU) is a plus.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in motor insurance underwriting, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to make sound underwriting decisions and manage complex cases.
  • Proficiency in underwriting software and data analysis tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
