Responsibilities:
 

  • Coordinate the growing Library and Archive and related research programme.
  • Support research efforts that align with, draw upon, support, or include cultural heritage initiatives (both tangible and intangible).
  • Develop an ongoing inventory of, and an appropriate database management system for, Caymanian Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) and ICH practitioners within mandate.
  • Support research around Collections (including arts and cultural artifacts) and Cultural Treasures Initiative (Aunt Julia Hydes, Miss Gladwyn “Lassie” Bush and others).
  • Document and identify key informants for research, as interview participants.
  • Create content for the digital resources for education department.
  • Develop partnerships with the National Museum, the National Gallery, the National Trust, etc to support research and programming.
  • Coordinate educational programmes for diverse audiences including children, educators, community groups, seniors, the public and those with disabilities and/or special needs.
  • Host school tours and workshops relating to Caymanian cultural heritage, the performing and literary arts, and the Miss Lassie Collection.
  • Work closely and cooperatively with government and private school systems in scheduling tours and programmes.
  • Support the logistics for the diverse needs of cultural heritage related programmes
  • Seek to connect to individuals in the community and develop innovate ways in which to connect to them, including networking with key community/district figures and contacts in order to deliver programming effectively.
  • Carry out evaluations of educational programmes e.g. gathering feedback from programme participants and teachers, photos and attendance records, and assist with the compilation of information for end-of-year sponsors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 
Requirements:
 

  • Ideally have a Bachelor’s Degree in business, arts administration, museum, cultural studies or a related field
  • 2+ years experience in a relatable role
  • Working knowledge of the Cayman Islands National Curriculum
  • An understanding of education trends and practices, learning theory for adults and children and the national curriculum;
  • Experience with teaching;
  • Genuine desire to work in the arts and cultural development industry
  • Have the skills to actively promote awareness of Cayman’s cultural heritage, and to lobby for its protection and public recognition;
  • Articulate, with strong communications skills
  • Computer literate (proficient in MS Office)
  • Highly organised, detail oriented and able to work well under pressure
  • Be able to interact with people both within and outside of the organisation in a professional and courteous manner
