Our client is a leading international shipyard group with operations across Asia, delivering world-class solutions in shipbuilding, conversion, repair and offshore engineering. Known for its technical expertise, innovation and operational excellence, their Batam operation is a key part of the group’s regional growth and project delivery.

They are now seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to provide legal guidance and support for all aspects of their Batam operations. This is a senior role covering a wide spectrum of legal, regulatory and transactional matters, working closely with operational, commercial and management teams to ensure smooth execution of projects and compliance with applicable laws.

In this role, you will advise on both contentious and non-contentious matters, draft, review and negotiate a wide range of contracts including new building, conversion, repair, recycling, module fabrication, joint venture, lease and vendor agreements. You will oversee regulatory and compliance matters, manage permit and licence applications, coordinate with the corporate secretarial team on board papers and resolutions, liaise with government authorities, and manage external counsel when required.

The successful candidate will hold a law degree from a reputable university and be qualified to practise law in Indonesia, with 8 to 12 years of post-qualification experience. You will have strong knowledge of shipyard, maritime, engineering, procurement, fabrication, tax, employment and labour law, real estate, intellectual property, commercial and corporate law. Experience in regulatory compliance, including anti-corruption, environmental regulations, permits and licences, will be essential. Fluency in both English and Bahasa Indonesia is required, and overseas experience will be an advantage.
