Reinsurance Accountant

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Reinsurance Accountant to support the accurate recording, reporting, and reconciliation of reinsurance-related transactions. The role will involve collaboration across actuarial, underwriting, and operations teams, and will ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulatory standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review journal entries related to reinsurance premiums, commissions, claims, and reserves.

  • Reconcile reinsurance accounts including ceded premiums, recoverables, and payable balances.

  • Analyze and monitor reinsurance treaties, contracts, and schedules to ensure accurate accounting treatment.

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and regulatory filings (e.g., statutory reports, GAAP/IFRS disclosures).

  • Collaborate with underwriting and actuarial teams to validate treaty data and bordereaux reports.

  • Support the month-end and quarter-end close process with reinsurance-specific entries and reconciliations.

  • Liaise with brokers, reinsurers, and third-party administrators to resolve discrepancies and outstanding balances.

  • Ensure compliance with SOX/internal control requirements for all reinsurance transactions.

  • Participate in system implementations, data migrations, and automation projects as needed.

  • Support internal and external audits by preparing supporting schedules and documentation.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • CPA or progress toward designation is preferred.

  • 2–5 years of experience in insurance or reinsurance accounting.

  • Strong understanding of insurance and reinsurance structures (quota share, excess of loss, stop loss, etc.).

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Workday) and reinsurance platforms (e.g., WINS, SICS) is a plus.

  • Knowledge of GAAP and/or IFRS accounting principles.

  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.

  • High attention to detail and organizational ability.
