Responsibilities

  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and operation of commercial facilities, ensuring all building systems are safe, compliant, and operating efficiently.
  • Manage preventative and corrective maintenance programs for refrigeration, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, gas, mechanical, and building management systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve equipment issues, including commercial refrigeration systems, while ensuring minimal operational downtime.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise maintenance projects, equipment installations, repairs, and regulatory upgrades.
  • Manage maintenance budgets, inventory, procurement, and capital planning while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports, equipment logs, and compliance documentation.
  • Lead, train, coach, and supervise maintenance personnel, including scheduling, performance management, recruitment, and employee development.
  • Coordinate with operational teams, contractors, and vendors to ensure timely completion of maintenance activities and high service standards.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and statutory regulations, including emergency response planning and business continuity initiatives.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation, support emergency repairs, and assist with severe weather or disaster preparedness as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, vocational qualification, or equivalent trade certification; additional qualifications in facilities management, engineering, refrigeration, HVAC, or a related field are an advantage.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in commercial refrigeration, facilities management, building maintenance, or a similar leadership role.
  • Previous experience maintaining supermarket or large commercial refrigeration systems is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial refrigeration, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, and building management systems.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance programs, troubleshooting, equipment diagnostics, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with refrigeration control systems, including CPC E2 (UltraSite) controllers, microprocessor controls, or similar technologies is highly desirable. Experience with Hussmann rack systems is an advantage.
  • Proven leadership experience managing maintenance teams, contractors, budgets, procurement, and inventory.
  • Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or similar software.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to participate in on-call rotations, weekend work, public holiday coverage, and emergency response activities as required
